Pokémon releases aesthetic Nintendo Switch accessories and I tried them out

I’M a Pokémon super fan, but a lot of the Switch accessories with designs from the series are made with kids in mind.

That means big, bright, colourful designs of each Pokémon with cool lightning bolt decals, and that doesn’t really fit my aesthetic.

That’s why when PowerA reached out to offer me the Pikachu Garden Nintendo Switch controller and case, I knew I had to grab them.

The subtle Pikachu design is just as whimsical as in the photos, and really focuses on the dreamier designs of Pokémon like we have currently seen in the Soda Pop range.

The pink and purple are highlighted by the whites and greys, giving it a really pleasing look.

What impressed me the most about the controller is just how long the battery lasts. I’ve been playing with it for a week and I’ve not had to charge it.

However, I think the long battery life is linked to the fact that it doesn’t rumble, which might put some players off.

The lack of rumble will be a big disappointment for some and it also means it’s a lot lighter than expected.

I also wasn’t a big fan of the overall feel, which is too slick for long sweaty gaming sessions.

There are three extra buttons on the back and everything is remappable, making it great for extra accessibility.

However, I would have liked a turbo option, particularly for a Pokémon controller where a lot of people use it while grinding for money, resources or Shinies.

It’s a great-looking controller and has good functionality, but those looking for something for more intensive sessions might want to look elsewhere.

The carry case is a great hybrid between the slim design of a soft case, and the protection of a hard case.

I have both an original Switch and a Switch Lite, and it is definitely better suited for the former.

To make the case fit the Lite there is a removable foam piece, which works to stop it sliding around, but it is definitely designed with the larger Switch models in mind.

The straps work well to keep it in place no matter how much it shakes about, and there are a great number of cartridge slots, making it perfect for long trips.

It’s not the most premium material for a carry case, but it is certainly one I’d recommend to those without a Switch Lite looking for a cute design.
