Financial literacy classes for high school students
Financial literacy classes will be rolled out to all third-year high school students this academic year, Education Minister Athena Michaelidou announced on Friday.
The decision was finalised during a Cabinet session, after which the minister said the class would be available across all schools in the country.
Six teaching periods per year will be offered for financial literacy, as part of the government’s national strategy on the matter.
“We are ready with the start of the school year to train the teachers.”
The material has already been prepared, for which Michaelidou thanked academics who have helped prepare the class.
Part of the planning entails that with the end of this school year, the ministry can broaden it to more students.
At the same time, she specified efforts are underway to install air condition units in schools, which became a hot matter last year amid reports of students feeling sick and teachers complaining it was impossible to do their job in stifling heat.
