Newburgh man arrested in Poughkeepsie for allegedly selling fentanyl

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Dutchess County Sheriff's Office reported the arrest of a Newburgh man in connection to an extensive drug investigation. Antwan Wakely Jr., 31, is facing multiple charges.

Wakely is accused of transporting and selling fentanyl and other drugs between Newburgh and Dutchess County. During a longstanding investigation by the Dutchess County District Attorney's Office Drug Task Force, Wakely allegedly sold drugs to agents of the Task Force.

On August 22, Wakely was located in Poughkeepsie and was taken into custody without incident by Task Force agents with assistance from the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office. At the time of his arrest, he was reportedly found to have large quantities of fentanyl and cocaine with him which were packaged for sale. Wakely now faces the following charges:

  • Third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance - intent to sell
  • Fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance

Deputies say further charges against Wakely are pending. He is being held at the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office while awaiting his arraignment.
