'Driving Trump nuts': Dem insider explains why Harris is 'freaking out' ex-president
Democratic political operative David Axelrod on Friday argued that former President Donald Trump was deeply rattled by what he saw from Vice President Kamala Harris at this week's Democratic National Convention.
Appearing on CNN, Axelrod said that Harris had surprised him by being a much stronger political candidate than she had been back in 2020, when the massive anti-police brutality protests that erupted in the wake of George Floyd's killing made her reluctant to talk about her background as a prosecutor.
Now that Harris is leaning into her background in law enforcement, argued Axelrod, she is clearly coming off as more authentic than she did during her failed presidential run four years ago.
He then added that all of this has the side effect of infuriating Trump, who has openly fantasized about President Joe Biden jumping back into the race.

"She's driving Donald Trump nuts right now," he said. "He judges the whole world as a casting director. And what he saw last night was someone who looks strong, who looks like a president. And it scares him and he's kind of freaking out and he's acting out as a result."
Axelrod then gave Harris some advice on how to handle Trump during their upcoming debate, as he said she should be "serene" and "unbothered by his antics."
He also said Harris should point to Trump during the debate and say, "We can turn the page on this."
"That would be a really winning formula," he added.
