This Frozen Korean Meal From Aldi Is So Popular That Stores Are Having Trouble Keeping It in Stock

It’s hard to go to Aldi and not walk away with a cart overflowing with things that weren’t on our list, from seasonal cheeses to home organization tools to affordable wine. But one of our favorite things to get at Aldi is quick and easy snacks and meals for when we don’t have time to cook, but also don’t want to spend a ton of money on delivery or take-out. They release yummy foods like this all the time, but one of the newest is so popular, customers report that their Aldi keeps selling out. It’s Aldi’s frozen kimbap, and they’re just the latest store to hop on the kimbap train.

But first of all, what is kimbap (also called gimbap)? It’s a Korean food that might remind you of a sushi roll at first glance, but there’s one big difference between sushi rolls and Korean kimbap — in kimbap, the ingredients inside the roll are usually cooked. Aldi is now selling two varieties of kimbap in the freezer aisle. One is filled with beef bulgogi, a sweet and savory Korean BBQ classic, and the other is filled with spicy salmon.

On Reddit, Aldi shoppers had a lot to say about the new kimbap…including how difficult it has been to find in stores. “I’m still waiting for my Aldi to stock them,” lamented one Redditor, while another said, “Mine did and I was an idiot and only bought one. Next day, ALL were gone.” “I tried these for the first time last week and they are DELICIOUS,” shared another. The kimbap is found in the freezer section, and just needs to get microwaved before eating until it’s thawed, but not hot.

Aldi isn’t the only store that’s recently started carrying kimbap. Trader Joe’s has a vegan-friendly tofu kimbap, and Costco sells kimbap, too. And, of course, if you have a Korean grocery store near you, you should be able to find it there, too.

If you’re looking for a quick and easy meal that won’t break the bank, then try Aldi’s kimbap, which is $3.99 for a package with eight pieces. But if you do find it in your Aldi, you might want to stock up, so you don’t end up like some the Reddit shoppers who weren’t able to get as many as they wanted.
