Suspect of Pittstown domestic assault found dead

PITTSTOWN, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Rensselaer County Sheriff's Office (RCSO) continues to investigate a domestic assault that occurred in Pittstown on Thursday. The suspect of the assault, whose name has not been released, was found dead by deputies, according to Rensselaer County Sheriff Kyle Bourgault.

On August 22, the RCSO responded to what was initially reported as a home invasion on Anders Road in Pittstown. Arriving deputies located a woman in need of medical attention, who was taken to a local hospital.

The ensuing investigation determined that the woman had been violently assaulted by her brother, who fled the home on foot. An extensive search of the area conducted by deputies in tandem with New York State Police resulted in the man being located dead about 300 yards from the house.

Sheriff Bourgault confirmed that the man had taken his own life. The victim has since been released from the hospital, the RCSO stated. The investigation remains ongoing.
