Juvenile shoots child at NJ house party, charged with attempted murder: police

BAYONNE, N.J. (PIX11) – An underage male child was taken into police custody on Thursday evening for attempting to murder another underage child, Bayonne Police said. 

The two kids briefly argued at a house party near West 9th Street a few minutes before 8:00 p.m. The disagreement peaked when Juvenile No. 1 allegedly shot Juvenile No. 2 (the victim) in the hip, police said. 

Juvenile No. 1 fled the scene on a bicycle. The victim was taken to a local Bayonne hospital to be treated for their injury. They are expected to recover, police said. 

The assailant juvenile was taken into police custody an hour after the shooting occured. The two kids are believed to be known to each other, police said. 

The assailant has been charged with: 

  • Attempted Murder
  • Aggravated Assault with a Weapon
  • Possession of a Firearm for Unlawful Purpose
  • Unlawful Possession of Handgun

Due to the assailant and the victim's age, the juveniles have not been named by police.
