Mark Wahlberg and Halle Berry’s ‘Union’ Tops the Streaming Chart

Time and time again, we’ve seen how combining big-name Hollywood stars in a made-for-streaming movie is a recipe for success. Netflix’s latest attempt at that formula teams up Mark Wahlberg and Halle Berry in “The Union,” and it pays off. The action comedy sits atop the streaming chart on the  Samba TV Weekly Wrap Report for the week of August 12 to 18, 2024.

“American Murder: Laci Peterson,” a true crime docuseries about the 2002 murder, comes in at No. 2 this week. It’s followed by “Furioisa, A Mad Max Saga,” which, conveniently for viewers searching across streamers, is on Max. The summer blockbuster, which hit theaters on Memorial Day, is the third-most watched program this week.

The fourth season of Netflix’s popular “Emily in Paris” enters the chart at No. 4 this week after it was added to the library on August 15.

In fifth place, Max is showing that it’s very hard to kill a dragon. “House of the Dragon” remains on the chart, even though the season finale aired back on August 4. Fans are either taking their time catching up, or eager to rewatch now that the second season has wrapped.

“Dragon” is followed by “Industry,” a Max series that actually did air a new episode this week. The buzzy drama about the wealthy and powerful began its third season on August 11. “Mr. Throwback,” NBA star Stephen Curry’s foray into sitcom acting for Peacock, is No. 7.

Netflix claims the final three spots in our Top 10. The fourth and final season of Netflix’s “The Umbrella Academy” is No. 9, while two older films take up the remaining two spots. “The Emoji Movie,” from 2017, is No. 8, while the Tom Cruise vehicle, “Jack Reacher: Never Go Back,” is No. 10.

Over on linear, some perennial summer favorites returned after an Olympic break. “America’s Got Talent” takes the top spot, as well as No. 3. In between is “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon 10th Anniversary Special,” while “American Ninja Warrior” jumps to No. 4. All four of those programs aired on NBC, giving the network a big victory coming off of the massive success of its Olympics telecasts. 

ABC holds the next six spots, with four of them going to “Wheel of Fortune.” A Sunday night airing of the Disney movie “Jungle Cruise” lands No. 6, and “The Bachelorette” is No. 8.
