Featured
OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) - The Oklahoma State Election Board is offering tips ahead of the election happening next Tuesday, August 27.
On the ballot will be primary runoffs , several bond issues, non-partisan elections and the Oklahoma City Hotel/Motel tax increase
ELECTION DAY VOTING
Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Election Day.
Results will be released after the polls close.
All eligible voters in line by 7 p.m. will be permitted to vote.
CLOSED PRIMARIES
Oklahoma has closed primaries.
That means in order to vote in a particular party's election you must be a registered voter of that party.
However, the Oklahoma Democratic Party has chosen to open its primaries to Independent voters this year, while the Republican and Libertarian parties have chosen to keep their primaries closed.
If you are a registered as an Independent you can cast a ballot in the Democratic primary runoff.
All voters, regardless of party affiliation may vote in nonpartisan elections.
VERIFY POLLING PLACE
You can verify your polling place by going to the OK Voter Portal or contact your local County Election Board or the State Board.
PROOF OF IDENTITY
There are three ways to show proof of identity under the law (only one proof of identity is required):
- Show a valid photo ID issued by the federal, state, or tribal government; or
- Show the free voter identification card issued to every voter by their County Election Board; or
- Sign an affidavit and vote a provisional ballot. (If the information on the affidavit matches official voter registration records, the ballot will be counted after Election Day.)
ACCESSIBILITY
Some voters may need assistance to vote because they are blind or visually disabled, physically disabled or infirmed, or illiterate. Contact your local County Election Board for the different ways the state can assist.
