Man arrested for stealing reg plate, carrying gun, other crimes

A 34-year-old man was arrested in Limassol on Friday evening six weeks after he had been declared a wanted man after being seen parking a car and then getting out of it holding a pistol.

Witnesses had called the police, who, when they arrived on the scene, found that the car’s registration plates had been stolen from another vehicle.

Investigations determined that the car’s owner was the 34-year-old, while it was also discovered that his driving licence, MOT certificate, and insurance had all expired in 2021.

A search of the car unearthed a “low-powered improvised explosive device”, 29 full nine-millimetre pistol cartridges, 35 grams of brown solid cannabis resin, and a bag containing personal documents.

All the items found in the car were taken as evidence. The police’s investigation into the matter is ongoing.
