Report: Liverpool could consider late move for first team Chelsea ace

Liverpool’s transfer business could take an incredible turn in the next few days.

It all depends on whether Joe Gomez stays at the club or leaves as the player is looking for a new challenge.

Gomez is open to leaving the club and he almost joined Newcastle United earlier in the summer in a move that would have seen Anthony Gordon move to Anfield.

Sepp van den Berg has left the Reds to join Brentford and if Gomez leaves the club as well, then the Merseyside club would step into the market to sign a new centre-back.

According to GiveMeSport, Liverpool have identified three defensive targets for the centre-back position but it all depends on the future of Gomez.

If he leaves, they have shorlisted Chelsea star Levi Colwill, Bayer Leverkusen’s Piero Hincapie and RB Leipzig defender Mohamed Simakan as their options for the centre-back position.

Arne Slot would need another defender as the Reds would then lose two centre-backs and that would hurt their depth at the back.

Gomez was not a part of Liverpool’s matchday squad for the 2-0 win against Ipswich Town in the opening game of the season.

Liverpool are interested in a move for Chelsea defender Levi Colwill.

The English defender spent the summer with the Three Lions at Euro 2024, however, he did not make a single appearance for Gareth Southgate’s team.

He is currently the longest serving Liverpool player and now he wants a fresh challenge away from Anfield, which would force the Reds to step into the market.

Chelsea would not consider selling Levi Colwill to Liverpool

It would be too late for the Reds to sign Colwill from Chelsea though, as the Blues would avoid selling one of their first team players to their rivals and particularly at this stage of the transfer window.

The Merseyside club retain a long term interest in the Chelsea defender as the 21-year-old was also linked with a move to Anfield during the tenure of former manager Jurgen Klopp.

Gomez’s future is set to be decided soon as just six days are left in the transfer window to shut down.
