“Didn’t look back…”: Virender Sehwag’s heartfelt message for Shikhar Dhawan

India’s star opener, Shikhar Dhawan called time on his international career on Saturday. Shikhar posted a video announcing his retirement, drawing curtains on his Team India stint that began in 2010. Though the start to his international career may have been slow but he came into the limelight with his Test debut against Australia where he played a fantastic knock of 187.

He raced to his century in only 85 balls by scoring a flurry of boundaries. He still holds the record for the highest individual score by an Indian batter on Test debut. With an impressive start, Shikhar cemented his place in the Test side, and even though his career in the longest format was short-lived, he found his footing in the white-ball sides.

The opener forged a formidable opening partnership with Rohit Sharma in ODIs and T20Is, and further formed a brilliant batting trio with Virat Kohli who used to bat at number 3. The trio dominated the Indian white-ball batting for a large part of the 2010s.

The Indian batting great, Virender Sehwag who is the opener that Shikhar succeeded in the Indian team, has now reacted to Dhawan’s retirement with a heartfelt message. The former Indian opener acknowledged that Dhawan had capitalized on his performances ever since he replaced him in the Indian Test team.

“Badhaai ho Shikkhi. Ever since the time you replaced me in Mohali, you didn’t look back and some top performances over the years. May you continue to have fun and live life to the fullest. Very best wishes always,” Sehwag wrote on his official X handle.
