Nike Upgraded Its Fan-Favorite Vomero Sneaker for the Fall

Nike’s enduring Zoom Vomero 5 has seen countless reworks since its 2018 reemergence. Whether it be the accelerating aging and sculptural additions from designer Samuel Ross’ A-Cold-Wall collaboration or more recent features such as glow-in-the-dark details and Velcro patches, the retro running shoe has covered a lot of ground. But an upcoming iteration proves there’s still more possibilities for the sneaker.

A new model known as the Nike Zoom Vomero 5 Roam updates the airy runner with fall-appropriate trail running details. From the bottom to top, the entire shoe has been beefed up without losing its original flair. The outsole gets a durable hard rubber upgrade, while the Zoom Air-cushioned midsole sees some added thickness. A protective mudguard runs across the upper and there’s an added protective toe cap. The traditionally mesh upper is replaced with ripstop and the shoelaces are affixed with a toggle lace lock. An abundance of reflective accents also appear throughout the sneaker for nighttime visibility. 

Originally released in 2010 as a performance running shoe, the Zoom Vomero 5 has had a stop-and-start resurgence. It first came back in ’18 with the aforementioned A-Cold-Wall collab and released in a handful of styles in 2019, but didn’t quite catch on with the mainstream market during that run. Just a few years later, as 2000s-era mesh running shoes have become a top trend, the Zoom Vomero 5 has become one of Nike’s biggest retro models.

Given the Zoom Vomero 5’s continued popularity, it’s not a surprise that Nike has tailored a new version for the cooler weather ahead. Set to arrive soon in a “Flax/Khaki/Anthracite/University Gold” colorway, the Nike Zoom Vomero 5 Roam will retail for $180, a slight increase from the Zoom Vomero 5’s standard price of $160. An exact release date has not yet been confirmed, but readers can find a detailed look at the shoes below.
