One injured in early morning shooting, Lafayette police say
LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) -- One person was injured in a shooting early Saturday and a 16-year-old suspect is being investigated in connection with the incident, according to the Lafayette Police Department.
Lafayette police said they went to the 800 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive at around 4 a.m. Saturday in response to a reported shooting in progress.
Police said they located the victim, who was suffering from an injury to her chest. The victim was taken to an area hospital by ambulance. Police said she is in stable condition.
Witnesses told officers that the suspect was inside a nearby apartment, police said.
Authorities said that the suspect, a 16-year-old boy, was called out of the apartment by SWAT members without incident.
"The suspect, victim and witnesses are currently being interviewed by detectives at Lafayette Police Department," police said in a Saturday morning news release.
The shooting remains under investigation.
