Marcus Rashford having extra sessions with Ruud van Nistelrooy as Man Utd legend pinpoints two areas star must improve

RUUD VAN NISTELROOY has taken Marcus Rashford under his wing as he bids to return him to his best.

Rashford is still a world away from the brilliant form of two years ago, when he was Manchester United’s stand-out star.

Now Van Nistelrooy, who returned as one of Erik ten Hag’s assistants in the summer, is holding one-on-one sessions with the misfiring frontman to resolve the problem.

Rashford, 26, has not scored since a quick-fire three-in-three nearly 20 months ago.

He had racked up after a career-best 34 the season before.

And United are hoping van Nistelrooy – who hit 150 goals in five devastating years at Old Trafford – can work his magic.

The Dutchman has been staying behind after regular training to work with him on all aspects of the attacker’s role.

There has been particular focus on back post awareness and runs across the box.

And insiders insist Rashford is lapping up the extra work.

The forward drew another blank as United fell to a late defeat at Brighton on Saturday.

Rashford did manage to hit the back of the net in the 2-1 loss.

But his effort was ruled out for offside by the tightest of margins.

Joao Pedro bagged a winner for the Seagulls in the fifth minute of added time.

While former United man Danny Welbeck opened the scoring to sandwich Amad Diallo’s strike.
