Unattended pot on stove causes fire at apartment complex, authorities say
LAFAYETTE PARISH, La. (KLFY) -- A pot left unattended on a stove resulted in a fire erupting Saturday afternoon at Lafayette Garden Apartments, authorities say.
According to a news release from the Scott Fire Department, firefighters were dispatched to the apartment complex just before 3 p.m. Saturday.
Responding firefighters saw heavy smoke emitting from the top floor of a fourplex. Authorities said the firefighters encountered a "heavy fire" in the kitchen area but were able to get it under control quickly.
The fire department said an investigation revealed that the fire began with an unattended pot on the stove. The fire resulted in "heavy fire damage" in the kitchen area and "heavy smoke damage" in the rest of the apartment, authorities said.
The other three apartments of the fourplex received minor smoke damage, the fire department said.
No injuries were reported.
Duson and Judice Fire Departments assisted in the response efforts.
