Suspect arrested in the murder of popular NYC sneaker reseller 'Upscale Cracc'

NEW YORK (PIX11)-- A man was arrested Saturday morning in connection to the murder of “Upscale Cracc,” a popular sneaker reseller from New Jersey, officials said. 

Jayquan Straker, 35, of Poughkeepsie, was taken into police custody for allegedly killing 31-year-old Javier Osorio-Mejia, also known as ‘Upscale Cracc.’ 

Osorio-Mejia, a Bayonne resident and a well-known figure in the sneaker community, had been gunned down in a robbery back in June. The shooting occurred in the Manhattan neighborhood of Soho, police said. 

Osorio-Mejia was shot three times in his right leg in front of 43 Greene St. at around 5:15 a.m. EMS personnel rushed the victim to an area hospital, but he could not be saved.

Officials believe Osorio-Mejia and a woman passenger were followed by a gunman from a club in Queens. At one point, the victim pulled his vehicle over, and the suspect robbed and shot him before driving off. The woman was not injured, police said.

• Murder - First Degree
• Murder - Second Degree
• Robbery - First Degree
• Robbery - Second Degree
• Criminal Possession of a Weapon - Second Degree
