Eddie Howe Insists Newcastle ‘Not In Control’ Of Bid To Make Signings

Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe believes the Magpies are not in control of whether they will get the signings they want before the transfer window closes.

The Magpies were expected to significantly bolster their squad over the summer, but it has not happened, with defender Lloyd Kelly the only real notable arrival.

Newcastle remain open for business heading towards the final days of the transfer window and have been chasing Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi.

The pressure is on to strengthen, but Howe does not feel Newcastle are really in control of whether they will make additions or not.

“I don’t know how to answer that. We’re not in control of it”, he told reporters after the draw at Bournemouth when asked if he is confident the signings he wants to land will come.

“We’ve made it clear we’d like to add to group.

“But they have to be the right players at the right price for short and long-term benefit of club.”

Newcastle scrambled to do deals at the end of June to stay on the right side of PSR rules, with exciting winger Yankuba Minteh sold to Brighton, while Elliot Anderson joined Nottingham Forest.

Minteh is already catching the eye on the south coast with Brighton.
