Newcastle star Joelinton incredibly escapes red card after wiping out Bournemouth keeper with ‘WWE move’

NEWCASTLE star Joelinton escaped a red card after wiping out Bournemouth’s goalkeeper with a “WWE move.”

The Brazilian rode his luck in Sunday’s game on the south coast, with the match ending 1-1 in controversial circumstances.

The incident occurred during Newcastle’s 1-1 draw with Bournemouth

Bournemouth took a 37th minute lead at home through Marcus Tavernier.

But Newcastle dug deep and got back in the game with 15 minutes remaining thanks to Anthony Gordon’s leveller.

Dango Outtara then looked to have netted a 92nd minute winner for the hosts.

However, his effort was ruled out by VAR for handball despite the ball appearing to come off his shoulder.

And Newcastle rode their luck even further when Joelinton avoided a red card for a bizarre challenge on Cherries stopper Neto.

The Brazilian goalie rushed out of his box to collect a Toon cross and start a last-gasp counter attack.

But before he got the chance to throw the ball, compatriot Joelinton entered the fray.

The midfielder blocked off Neto from moving while wrapping his arm around the Bournemouth star’s neck.

Joelinton then threw Neto to the ground to stop play entirely while sprinting back towards his own half.

And the raucous move prompted an outcry from home supporters.

However, referee David Coote did not see anything too wrong with Joelinton’s outrageous foul and did not punish him for the move.

But fans quickly reacted on social media to the incident.

One said: “That was a red card for Joelinton.”

Another declared: “Joelinton to WWE, here we go.”

One noted: “Almost definitely a red.”

Another added: “That challenge is a shocker.”

Eddie Howe admitted after the final whistle that he would have a word with Joelinton about the “reckless move.”

He said: “It was probably a little bit reckless, you can see what he was trying to do but you can’t go near the head area.

“That’s something we will talk to him about.”
