Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office mourns loss of detective to cancer
IBERIA PARISH, La. (KLFY) -- A detective with the Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office died Sunday after a battle with cancer, according to the sheriff's office.
The sheriff's office announced the passing of Det. Misty Mellon Montgomery in a social media post.
Montgomery joined the sheriff's office in December 2014 following her time with Louisiana Probation and Parole, the sheriff's office said.
"She was a highly skilled professional, certified in Identity Theft, Interview and Interrogations, Financial Investigations, Cellphone Forensics, Oxygen Forensics, and as a Lantern Certified Examiner," the sheriff's office said.
According to the social media post, Montgomery loved working in law enforcement and being a detective.
"She was extremely professional, knowledgeable and always willing to help others," the sheriff's office said.
"We ask for your continued prayers and support for her husband, children, and family as they lay her to rest," the sheriff's office continued.
Montgomery's LinkedIn profile shows that she was a probation and parole officer for more than 10 years. Before that, she was a workforce development officer with the Louisiana Department of Labor and worked as a substitute teacher in Iberia Parish.
Per her LinkedIn, Montgomery is a 1992 grad of New Iberia Senior High. She also attended the University of Southwestern Louisiana, where she majored in behavioral sciences and minored in English.
Montgomery served as a board member of the Evangeline Little League, beginning in 2007, according to her LinkedIn. She was League President in 2015.
In a 2018 social media post, Evangeline Little League said Montgomery grew up with the league and played ball. She held many positions with the league, including being a coach, a player agent, vice president, president, and District 1 assistant district administrator.
