Gamethread: Tigers at White Sox

Trying to stave off loss 100 for a day

On this first anniversary of the Guaranteed Rate Field shooting, instead of 40-caliber bullets, the White Sox will be firing a Cannon ... Jonathan, that is. Like most rookies, the righty has had some inconsistency, though the good has generally outweighed the bad, and even the bad sometimes isn’t awful.

Still, Cannon sports a mediocre 4.26 ERA and slightly worse 4.70 FIP. He gave up five runs to the Giants last time out, but cruised through the first four innings before allowing five straight hits and four runs in the fifth.

The Tigers counter with the dreaded bullpen day, beginning with righty Beau Brieske. Brieske sports a starter type arsenal with four pitches he uses with regularity and hits the radar gun at 96+, but has only once gone as long as three innings in his three-year time with Detroit, so there should be an early switch. The Arizonan has a 4.24 ERA but much better 2.70 FIP.

Few of the Sox have faced Brieske, but one who has is Andrew Benintendi, who’s hitting third, behind Corey Julks, who had three hits in the 13-4 whomping the Tigers gave the Sox last night.

Cannon likewise will face a lineup that’s almost all new to him, with one exception being Colt Keith, whose 2-for-2 with a homer and will be in the cleanup spot.

First pitch is scheduled for 1:10 Central on a scorcher, 90 degrees with with a fair breeze toward left. Usual broadcast suspects.
