Wearing a helmet for laser racing

I have issues with being hit in the head with the laser boom. It happens most when the racing and the vang is on going upwind, and a sudden wind shift backs my sail. What type of helmet would be best to protect against this? It seems to me that a helmet which is higher than your head would normally be, will attract more boom strikes, and if the helmet is not designed relatively low boom impacts, then I might be making my situation worse.
