The One Show pulled off air just days after Jermaine Jenas’ axing

BBC’s The One Show has been pulled from Monday evening’s schedule in the wake of Jermaine Jenas’ axing.

Jermaine, 41, has been a regular host of the BBC talk show since 2021. However, he was fired last week after allegedly sending unsolicited flirty messages to a female colleague.

There will be no episode of The One Show airing tonight.

It’s not clear why the talk show has been pulled from regularly scheduled programming.

However, the schedule shake-up may be due to BBC One covering The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo this evening from 6:30pm.

The hour-long coverage of the annual music event takes up The One Show’s usual spot.

But unlike in previous instances, The One Show will not air on BBC Two instead.

Last week The One Show will continued to air with Alex Scott stepping up to replace Jermaine.

The show will return to screens tomorrow (Tuesday 27), reclaiming its regular 7pm slot on BBC One.

The schedule shake-up comes after former professional footballer-turned-pundit and presenter Jermaine was fired from the BBC last week.

His axing comes as the BBC reels from scandals involving Strictly and newsreader Huw Edwards.

The decision to take him off air comes after digital communications — likely WhatsApps and/or Instagram DMs — were allegedly uncovered during the probe.

It was spearheaded by new BBC director of sport Alex Kay-Jelski.

Revealing details of the investigation, a source said: “This latest incident of alleged misconduct in the workplace is the last thing the BBC needed. It has shocked and rocked everyone.

“The first complaint was raised after Jermaine flirtily messaged a female member of staff on The One Show, and she raised her misgivings in a formal capacity.

“The BBC knows it cannot now ignore concerns or complaints, so after immediate routine enquiries, the decision was taken to take him off air, and terminate his contract.

“They acted swiftly and decisively.

The One Show hosts past and present

The One Show has had a number of presenters since it launched in 2006 - but who are they?

Current

  • Alex Jones – Alex is the longest-severing current host of The One Show as she’s been a regular fixture on the green sofa since 2011.
  • Ronan Keating – After stints of X-Factor and The Voice: Australia, Boyzone star Ronan swapped singing for chatting, also joining The One Show in 2021.
  • Roman Kemp – Roman initially singed on to be a guest presenter on The One Show in 2022 but made the move permanent the following year. This brought his time on Capital Breakfast to an end.
  • Lauren Laverne – DJ, singer and Desert Island Discs host Lauren became a regular host on the BBC chat show at the same time as Roman.

Guest

The One Show also has a number of relief and guest presenters. They are:

  • Retired gymnast Gabby Logan (2009–2010, 2013—present)
  • Newsround presenter Ore Oduba (2015—present)
  • Presenter and X-Factor star Rylan Clark (2019—present)
  • Former professional footballer and Strictly star Alex Scott (2019—present)

Past

“In the wake of the Huw Edwards and Strictly Come Dancing scandals — although, to be clear, Jermaine’s conduct is absolutely nothing like Huw’s and there is no suggestion of illegality whatsoever — the BBC cannot be seen to be slow to take action.

“In this case, Jermaine was the fall guy and was fired.

He has yet to say his side of the story, but Jermaine is understood to have told his wife of 13 years, Ellie, about the claims, which he is said to be “deeply unhappy” about.

She is understood to be standing by him.

Jermaine has been axed from all of his BBC roles which, alongside presenting The One Show, includes his work on the FA Cup, Match Of The Day and the World Cup.
