Back-to-school shopping: Here's how much Americans are expected to spend

NEW YORK (PIX11) – Americans are projected to spend in the billions while back-to-school shopping this year, according to the National Retail Federation.

Parents in the U.S. will spend $39 billion on school supplies in 2024. That's about $875 per household.

This year is expected to be the second-highest back-to-school shopping season on record. Higher prices, slowing inflation and a resilient economy are contributing factors, according to the National Retail Federation.

Using coupons, comparison shopping and reusing products can help keep your household's back-to-school spending down, experts said.
