PAK Vs BAN: Big Setback For Pakistan, Bangladesh In WTC 2023-25 Table After First Test In Rawalpindi

New Delhi: Both Pakistan and Bangladesh were docked crucial World Test Championship points for slow over rates after their first Test match in Rawalpindi on Sunday. While Pakistan lost six WTC points, Bangladesh, who scripted their first Test win over their Asian opponents, were docked three points. “Hosts Pakistan were found to be six overs short during the Test and lost six World Test Championship points, while visitors Bangladesh were docked three points after being found three overs short of the acceptable rate,” ICC said in their website.

As a result, Pakistan remained eighth in the WTC 2023-25 table despite the penalty and the loss. Winners Bangladesh dropped to seventh behind South Africa because of the sanction. The two teams will next face in the second Test match starting at the same venue on August 20.

“Pakistan were fined 30% of their match fee while Bangladesh were penalised 15%. Captains Shan Masood and Najmul Hossain Shanto pleaded guilty to the offences and accepted the proposed sanctions, so there was no need for formal hearings,” ICC added further.

On Sunday, Bangladesh shrugged off political unrest back home to notch a historic 10-wicket win after Pakistan collapsed to 146 all out on a dramatic final day of the first Test. Off-spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz and left-arm spinner Shakib Al Hasan shared seven wickets after the pace bowlers mopped up the top order to give Bangladesh its maiden win in 14 Test matches against Pakistan.

It was Bangladesh’s seventh away Test win and the first since beating New Zealand at Mount Maunganui in January 2022.
