New Delhi: A viral video of West Indies all-rounder Carlos Brathwaite has been going around social media, where he can be seen smashing his helmet with his bat out of frustration after being dismissed at George Town. The incident happened during the Qualifier 1 match between Brathwaite’s New York Strikers and the Grand Cayman Jaguars at the Max60 Caribbean 2024 tournament. Brathwaite did this in reaction to a very controversial decision, and there is every type of criticism against this on the internet.
Joshua Little bowled a short delivery that struck Carlos Brathwaite on the shoulder before being caught behind the stumps. Although the ball appeared to have missed the bat, the umpire upheld the appeal for a catch, raising his finger, much to Brathwaite’s frustration.
As he walked back to the pavilion, a visibly enraged Carlos Brathwaite launched his helmet out of the park with a powerful swing of his bat. He swung the bat in frustration as he neared the dugout, further giving vent to his anger over the controversial decision.

The New York Strikers secured their place in the Max60 Cayman Islands final with a hard-fought eight-run victory over the Grand Cayman Jaguars in Qualifier 1.
Opting to bat first, Mitchell Owen (22 off 10) and Brandon McMullen (18 off 8) gave their team a strong start, amassing a 34-run partnership in just 2.2 overs to lay the groundwork for a competitive total of 108 for eight.
Owen’s quickfire innings featured four boundaries, while McMullen contributed with a mix of one four and two towering sixes. Skipper Thisara Perera added a crucial 16 off seven balls, hitting two sixes to boost the team’s total.
Josh Little (2/14), Jake Lintott (2/15), and captain Sikandar Raza (2/22) combined to take six wickets for the Grand Cayman Jaguars, putting pressure on the New York Strikers’ batting line-up.
In response, Alex Hales’ unbeaten 35 off 24 balls and Raza’s quickfire 27 from 16 deliveries weren’t enough to guide the Jaguars to victory, as they fell short by eight runs, finishing at 96 for five in their 10 overs. Hales struck four boundaries in his innings, while Raza smashed one four and three sixes.
Ansh Patel was the standout bowler for the Strikers, delivering a superb spell of 2 for 8 in his two overs.
Besides Perera, left-arm pacer Isuru Udana (1/32) and Mitchell Owen (1/19) snared a wicket each for New York Strikers.
New York Strikers will take on Caribbean Tigers in the final later on Sunday.
