Black Myth Wukong: ‘Memory leak’ issue rumored to cause Xbox release delay

According to gaming industry insiders Black Myth Wukong’s Xbox debut will be delayed due to a technical issue.

The game from studio Game Science has sold well over 10 million units in a fanfare release on other consoles. As we reported, the stellar shipping of the game across three days is the second-highest debut after GTA 5’s 16.5 million in 2013.

The game also recorded 2 million concurrent players on Steam, which eclipsed the likes of Counter-Strike 2, Elden Ring, and Cyberpunk 2077. So Xbox players will be desperate to start this title that takes its inspiration from the Chinese saga, Journey to the West.

They will, however, be disappointed to hear that a technical issue is holding back the port of the game on to Microsoft consoles.

Memory leak rumored issue behind Xbox release delay

Prominent community leaker, eXtas1s, reported to the Xbox fanbase that the technical issue is hindering a release on the console. He said “significant crashes” were the reason for the hold-up, with a “Memory Leak” at the heart of the problems.

His information comes from supposed “Xbox insiders” and developers who discussed the technical blockers at Gamescom. Game Science has yet to make an announcement or confirm the reported issue as a memory leak, so it is best to wait for the official confirmation, but it does provide a rumored cause of the delay.

As we covered at the time, Baldur’s Gate 3 recorded a similar memory-related Xbox issue. Microsoft and Larian laid the blame on a firmware issue that caused saves to mimic being saved to the cloud, but were actually not.

At the time Larian did their best to address the issue saying, “We’re aware that there is a save issue on Xbox that continues to linger throughout the holidays. It occurs when exiting the game after saving. The game thinks the save was successful but due to a firmware issue, the save file is not fully committed to disk yet.”

Game Science, having seen the issues that plagued a 10/10 game like Baldur’s Gate 3 seems in no rush to repeat the feat, but there is no excusing the lack of information on another marquee title delay on the Xbox.
