Micky Van de Ven the Rolls Royce

Van de Ven had a stellar afternoon, expertly mopping up the balls played over the top along with Cristian Romero and ensuring that Everton got no joy in open play.

Spurs fans had their hearts in their mouths after the Dutchman went down clutching his knee towards the end of the first half after hyperextending his leg. Thankfully, he was able to shake off the injury and was moving fine in the second half.

The defender’s best moment of the game came in the 77th minute as he won back possession in Tottenham’s own third and made a lung-busting surge with the ball, carrying it all the way to the edge of Everton’s box before playing Son Heung-min through on goal.

The Spurs captain squeezed the ball under Jordan Pickford to score his second of the game, thus giving the move the finish it deserved.

Ian Wright in awe of Micky Van de Ven

Speaking about Van de Ven’s run, Wright told Matchday Live Extra on Optus Sport: “Everton were on the attack and he was on the edge of his box.

“Then the Everton players running in front of and beside him, none of them get near him or in front of him. That’s just pace and ability that was. That’s unbelievable what he’s done there. So impressive.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Van de Ven could have quite easily released the ball early into Son but instead, he showed tremendous awareness to keep going and commit the defenders before laying the ball off for to the forward, thus giving the South Korean plenty of time and space to get his shot away.
