North Adams couple charged with cocaine trafficking

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. (NEWS10) -- Two people were arrested in North Adams on Thursday following a traffic stop, according to police. The man and the woman, whose names were not released, are both facing felony drug charges.

On August 22, North Adams Police attempted to stop a car for a traffic violation. The car's driver reportedly did not pull over and kept driving for a short time before eventually stopping.

While interviewing the two occupants, detectives learned that the driver had a suspended license. Police stated that probable cause was developed during the ensuing investigation, leading to the car being searched.

During the search, detectives located approximately one and one quarter ounces of cocaine and crack cocaine, as well as digital scales, packaging material, and about $2,000 in cash. The couple was then taken into custody and now face the following charges:

  • Trafficking cocaine (36-100 grams)
  • Conspiracy
  • Failure to stop for police (driver)
  • Operating after license suspension, subsequent offense (driver)
  • Fail to stop at stop sign (driver)

Police say the woman was held on $100,000 bail, while the man was held on $25,000 bail.
