Yves Bissouma’s redemption arc

Bissouma made his first appearance of the season on Saturday and had a point to prove after his well-publicised transgression two weeks ago, which resulted in a suspension for the club’s opening-day clash against Leicester City.

The 27-year-old played like a man possessed, being first to every loose ball in the middle of the park and ensuring that the home side dominated the midfield battle.

Bissouma also played several lovely through balls to Tottenham’s attackers during the game but his best moment came in the 14th minute, with the Mali international netting his first goal for the club with a ferocious strike from the edge of the box.

Bissouma did not get dispossessed a single time

Perhaps the stat that best encapsulates the former Brighton man’s dominant display was the fact that not a single Everton player managed to win the ball from him at any point in the game.

Bissouma also had a pass success rate of 93 per cent from 80 passes, managed 10 passes into the final third and had a tackle success rate of 100 per cent.

The midfielder’s xG was also just 0.1, showing how impressive his finish into the top corner actually was.

Spurs Web Opinion

Bissouma’s best attribute has always been his press resistance and his ability to handle the ball in tight areas. We saw on Saturday just what the midfielder is capable of when he is at his best.

If the 27-year-old can consistently play at the same level, Tottenham will undoubtedly be a major force this season, given the quality we have at either end of the pitch.
