Portland police seize guns, drugs and make multiple arrests during traffic stops

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Portland police seized guns, drugs and made multiple arrests over two separate traffic stops last week, authorities announced.

The traffic stops were made over two consecutive days and were part of the Portland Police Bureau's Focused Intervention Team, officials said.

The first traffic stop happened on Thursday of last week and resulted in the arrests of two Portland residents: 44-year-old Garvin Franklin and 37-year-old Darius D. Riggins. They're both facing multiple gun-related charges, including being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Police said the traffic stop happened in the 7800 block of North Lombard Street. Officer stopped a vehicle that was allegedly not obeying traffic laws.

"Neither the driver nor the passenger had driving privileges, so officers ordered a tow for the vehicle. While searching the vehicle, officers located a revolver in the rear passenger armrest," PPB said in a release.

The second traffic stop happened on Friday of last week in the area of Southeast 103rd Avenue and Southeast Ellis Street. It resulted in the arrest of 22-year-old Milwaukie resident Gilberto M. Felix and 23-year-old Vancouver resident Oscar A. Palomo.

"FIT members conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle involved in numerous driving violations," PPB said. "Officers immediately noticed a significant amount of drugs and two firearms in the vehicle."

Felix is accused of unlawful gun possession and drug charges for cocaine. Palomo is facing multiple gun charges.
