Limassol police continue to probe relationship between girls and alleged robbery victim

Kidnapping of a minor with reference to an absence of parental consent is being brought up as a possible scenario by police on Tuesday, as part of the investigation into the alleged robbery and assault of a 64-year-old male victim in Limassol.

The man has been subjected to thorough interrogation and the minor girls involved in the curious incident have also been extensively questioned by special police officers over the nature of their relationship, police spokesman Christos Andreou told state broadcaster, CyBC.

Police on Monday arrested an 18-year-old girl, the third arrest made for the case, with two other teenage girls, aged 15 and 16, previously arrested.

The 18-year-old is alleged to have been one of a group arriving at the scene in a car, after the 64-year-old man was lured around the back of a fast-food restaurant.

The 64-year-old reported he was punched in the face, and that his wallet, which contained €5,000 in cash and his identity card, was stolen.

The 18-year-old appeared in court on Monday for the issue of a remand.

The two other arrested teenage girls were handed remands over the weekend for their parts in the alleged crime.

The 15-year-old was remanded for six days on Friday and the16-year-old was remanded for five days on Saturday.

The case initially came to the fore after the 64-year-old man resorted to the police complaining of theft and assault, saying that the 16-year-old girl, whom he had “recently met” through the 15-year-old, had come to his hotel room and asked to go out for a meal.

They went to a fast-food restaurant where the 16-year-old told him to go around the back of the building to meet the other girl.

Once the pair were there, a vehicle pulled up with the 15-year-old and 18-year-old girls, accompanied by two boys.

One of the two boys allegedly attacked the man with a spray, punched him in the face, and robbed him.

The five youths then left the scene and the man was taken to the Limassol general hospital, where he was given medical treatment and discharged.

Police investigation is ongoing.
