A five-year-old boy shot himself to death after finding a gun in his parents’ bedroom while they were elsewhere in their home.

Brooks Thomas Wilson was playing in the bedroom on Thursday afternoon when he came across a 9mm pistol that was loaded. The gun discharged a single shot and struck him in the head, police said.

His father rushed to the bedroom and administered CPR, but his son died at the scene.

‘Brooks was always a happy and adventurous young boy, and his loving spirit will be remembered forever,’ states a GoFundMe page for his funeral expenses.

Both of Brooks’ parents and possibly one of his siblings were in their home in Santaquin, Utah, when he accidentally shot himself fatally, the Daily Mail reported.

His obituary states that he died ‘surrounded by his father, mother, and the many first responders who did their best to preserve his life’.

Brooks ‘lived his life to the fullest and always wore his heart on his sleeve’ and learned at a young age the value of relationships with his family, it states.

‘He mastered and felt emotions so quickly that he could empathize with everyone he met and console them anytime,’ it reads.

‘His curious nature showed a deep desire to learn and to pitch in with tasks around the home and with his dad working in the garage.’

No foul play is suspected in the boy’s death and authorities reportedly are not considering charges against his parents.

Brooks is survived by his dad, Bryan, his mom, Kristin, and siblings Dawson, Hudson and Oaklie, as well as grandparents, great-grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.

The GoFundMe page had raised more than $22,000 as of Monday evening.

Brooks’ visitation will take place on Tuesday, followed by his funeral on Wednesday morning at the Santaquin East Stake Center. He will be laid to rest at the Santaquin City Cemetery.

‘We are thankful to know that we will be reunited with him again,’ stated the GoFundMe page.

Brooks died four months after a three-year-old girl shot herself in the eye with her dad’s unsecured gun at their home in Philadelphia and died two days later.

And in September of last year, a three-year-old girl shot herself with an unattended gun as a relative celebrated a football touchdown in their Florida home. She underwent surgery in her hand and recovered.
