Suspect arrested in San Jose’s 21st homicide of the year

SAN JOSE – A 39-year-old San Jose man has been arrested in connection with the city’s 21st homicide of the year, according to authorities.

Jesus Casas was identified as a suspect after burned human remains were discovered at a homeless encampment near Roberts Avenue and Vintage Way on Aug. 19, San Jose police Officer Tanya Hernandez said in a news release Monday.

On Aug. 22, officers found and arrested Casas on a warrant, according to Hernandez.

Casas was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail in San Jose on a murder charge, Hernandez said.

The motive and circumstances surrounding the homicide remain under investigation.
