SC notice to Gujarat govt on Sanjiv Bhatt's plea against conviction in custodial death case

On Tuesday, the Supreme Court of India requested the Gujarat government's response to former IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt's appeal against his life imprisonment conviction in a 1990 custodial death case. Bhatt challenged the Gujarat High Court's January 9, 2024, decision that upheld his conviction for murder, along with co-accused Pravinsinh Zala, and dismissed the state's attempt to increase the sentences of five other convicted but acquitted individuals.
