It's nice to know I'm not the only one who has never done metal detecting, but would love to have a go. We should set up BCFC Metal Detectors OSC, lol.

I live in Mere Green in Sutton Coldfield, so I'm close to Wall, Tamworth, Watling St etc. That covers a good range from Roman times, Viking ages, and Industrial Revolution times, so could be interesting. The main issue would be the amount of DVB's per square mile!

Yeah I'm Rugeley, so not far from the A5 and I'm right on the edge of the Chase - there is an Iron Age hill fort/settlement up there that not many people know about (Castle Ring) so there is great potential for finding interesting stuff, all without moving too far from home.

Also nearby are the Ridwares and Penkridge - all Anglo Saxon settlements (Penkridge was even earlier, the Romans had a fort nearby - Pennocrucium - which was named from what the local Celts called the area). The other way is Letocetum (Wall) near Lichfield. Tettenhall was the site of a major battle between the Anglo Saxons and the Danes (Vikings).

Staffs is full of history.
