‘Not a pressing issue’ – Journalist hints Spurs are unlikely to strengthen one area

Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge says that signing a new goalkeeper is not an urgent priority for Tottenham Hotspur heading into the final few days of the transfer window.

Spurs have been very busy this summer

Tottenham have done some smart business so far this season, making additions in midfield, upfront and out wide with the acquisitions of Archie Gray, Dominic Solanke and Wilson Odobert.

Spurs have also secured the services of Korean starlet Yang Min-hyuk, who will link with the squad in January of 2025, while Lucas Bergvall, who they struck a deal for in January of this year, has also arrived through the door.

Spurs insider Paul O’Keefe revealed last week that the Lilywhites want to bring a goalkeeper through the door before the window slams shut.

Spurs may not sign a new goalkeeper yet

He explained that Fiorentina starlet Tommaso Martinelli is someone who has caught the eye of Ange Postecoglou’s side.

Bridge has now said that while a new goalkeeper is on Spurs’ agenda, it is not something the club consider an urgent issue to address.

The journalist said on Last Word on Spurs: “Goalkeeper area is an issue. I’m told it’s not a pressing issue, at the moment. Personally. I would like to see more competition for Vicario.

“When I asked, it is an area which they will be looking at. Whether that gets addressed now or January… I’m leaning more towards January.”

With Fraser Forster returning from a long-term injury layoff and now into the final year of his contract, it is understandable why the club would want to future-proof the goalkeeping position.

They would ideally want to sign a young, up-and-coming goalkeeper who can serve as Vicario’s understudy and potentially even challenge the Italian in a few years.
