Patrick Mahomes Sr. Pleads Guilty to Felony Charge

Patrick Mahomes Sr., the father of three-time Super Bowl champ Patrick Mahomes, has pleaded guilty to a felony DWI charge. The plea comes several months after the elder Mahomes was arrested during a traffic stop just days before his son played in the Super Bowl this year.

According to TMZ, the 54-year-old entered his plea in the case on Aug. 27. He was originally scheduled to go to trial in Smith County, TX. The exact details of the plea deal remain unclear. He's set to be sentenced on Sept. 23.

Mahomes Sr. was arrested back in February and first got the felony charge in April. According to The Austin American-Statesman, court documents described a damning scene during Mahomes Sr.'s arrest, including an open 16-ounce beer can in the front seat and the former MLB pitcher admitting he had "a few beers" at a bar before a concerning field sobriety test. His car's registration had also been expired since September 2022.

This isn't Mahomes Sr.'s first run-in with the law over intoxicated driving. It's his third DWI charge following a September 2008 arrest in South Dakota and another in February 2019 in Smith County, Texas.

Given his guilty plea, he's expected to receive five years of probation with strict supervision in the first year. He faces up to 10 years in prison for the crime and a fine of up to $10,000 if he violates his probation in this scenario. For his 2019 DWI charge, he received a 40-day jail sentence that he reportedly served on weekends.
