Glen Powell Shuts Down Harsh Ryan Gosling Comparison
Glen Powell and Ryan Gosling have seen enormous success in the past year thanks in part to Gosling's starring role in Barbie and Powell's rise to prominence in movies like Twisters and Anyone But You. The two actors aren't in competition with each other, but that seemingly hasn't stopped some Hollywood insiders from contrasting them anyway.
In a recent interview with The Wrap, an unnamed Hollywood producer revealed their thoughts on Powell's rising star amid Gosling's continued success decades into his career in show business.
"Glen Powell is most definitely an up-and-coming movie star in the sense that audiences now go to movies to see him," the anonymous producer said. "Unlike an actor like Ryan Gosling whose appeal is mostly limited to female audiences, Glen appeals to both females and males."
The comment didn't sit well with Powell himself, and the Twisters star wasted little time in standing up for Gosling and the years of work he's done in the industry.
"Gosling is a legend. I’m just Glen," Powell wrote on X on Aug. 27.

His post aligns with the Barbie poster slogan that similarly made Gosling the butt of the joke: "She's everything. He's just Ken." It's also a nod to "I'm Just Ken," the larger-than-life Barbie musical number that earned an Oscar nomination in addition to Gosling's own Best Actor nom for playing Barbie's iconic counterpart Ken.
Gosling himself has yet to respond to the comparison, though it likely isn't necessary, as Powell acknowledged that the Canadian actor's work speaks for itself.
