Suspended Buffalo music teacher arraigned for allegedly sending sexual video to believed-to-be minor

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) -- A now suspended Buffalo Public School music teacher was arraigned on one count of attempted endangering the welfare of a child Thursday, the Erie County District Attorney's Office announced.

Steven DeMart, 36, of Amherst, allegedly communicated with someone he believed to be a 13-year-old child on multiple occasions through social media. It is alleged that he sent her a sexually explicit video.

Officials said on May 28, DeMart attempted to meet with the child. He then allegedly reported the incident to Amherst police later the same day after it was revealed that he had been communicating with an adult who was impersonating a juvenile female.

DeMart, who was working as a music teacher at the school, was suspended from his position after the alleged incident was reported.

He was released on his own recognizance and is scheduled to return to court Sept. 19.
