Louisiana woman accused of stealing car with two young children inside

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) -- A Louisiana woman is accused of stealing and crashing a car with two children in it on Monday night.

Jennifer Gullick, 40, of Thibodaux, was charged with theft of a motor vehicle and aggravated kidnapping, according to the Denham Springs Police Department.

Police said officers responded to the Circle K on South Range Avenue near Bass Pro Boulevard before midnight after a mother called to report her running vehicle was stolen with two of her children, ages 4 and 6, inside.

The vehicle was reportedly taken while the mother was inside the store and was last seen leaving toward Vincent Road.

The police department and the Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office initiated a search for the vehicle. It was found on Plantation Avenue where it had been driven into a ditch, according to DSPD. Police said the children were found uninjured inside the vehicle.

Investigators believe Gullick was staying in a nearby hotel and was identified using store surveillance. She was arrested and booked into the Livingston Parish Detention Center.

Police said the mother of the two children was also arrested in this case. Jameka Fields, 31, of Denham Springs, was charged with two counts of child desertion and released from the scene with a misdemeanor summons.

A police spokesperson confirmed that a report was made to the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services and the children were released back to the mother.
