NFL Today: Washington Confident in Jayden Daniels

This week, the Chiefs have opted to reunite with WR JuJu Smith-Schuster, who was the team’s leading receiver in his only season in KC in 2022; Cleveland RB Nick Chubb (knee) still isn’t ready to return, so he’ll miss at least the first four games; and Patriot QB Jacoby Brissett hurt his shoulder on Sunday, but reportedly he could have stayed in the game if necessary.

Jayden Daniels Is Ready to Roll

Washington Commanders rookie QB Jayden Daniels — the second overall pick in the 2024 draft — has been so good this preseason that the team felt he could watch the last exhibition game from the sidelines as there was nothing left to prove. Hell, even advertisers believe in him already (see video below).

It’s obvious this kid is a top contender for Offensive ROY honours, but how does he rank as a potential Fantasy asset this year? Daniels, the 2023 Heisman Trophy winner, completed 80 per cent of his 15 passes while adding 16 yards and one TD on the ground this preseason.

At LSU, he proved beyond the shadow of a doubt he can produce at an elite level, throwing 40 TD passes against just four picks in his final season. As a mobile QB who is a major threat on the ground, Daniels has a chance for instant Fantasy value as a pro — assuming he gets the protection he needs from his offensive line.

For 2024, think low-end QB1 as his upside while his floor is likely as a mid-range QB2. Long term, Daniels has the tools to be a top five QB for Fantasy purposes.

Buccaneers Shake Up Wide Receiver Room

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers, looking to improve to double digit wins and return to the playoffs for a fifth straight season, have opted to part with veteran wide receiver Sterling Shepard.

The 31-year-old signed with Tampa Bay in the hopes that he could rediscover the magic he had at Oklahoma with quarterback Baker Mayfield, but injuries limited Shepard at training camp. That, plus the emergence of 2024 fourth round pick Jalen McMillan, sealed Shepard’s fate.

Shepard will have a spot on the Bucs’ practice squad if he so desires, and that kind of depth could prove very useful for the team, but those hoping for that Mayfield reunion are out of luck for now.

Last year, Shepard managed to play 15 games for the Giants — his most since 2018 — but he was no longer much of a threat (just 10 receptions) given that it was preceded by two injury-filled seasons.

While Tampa Bay still has some serious work to do before being a legitimate Super Bowl contender (currently +6500 as per FanDuel), this move solidifies McMillan as a top 85 wide receiver, one you should target somewhere between rounds 20 and 24.

RotoRob Tune of the Day

The Doors had a tremendous influence among ’60s rock bands and sure had their share of controversy as well thanks in no small part to leader Jim Morrison‘s drunken antics. Here’s another track from An American Prayer, with “Stoned Immaculate,” the final part of “To Come of Age.”
