PV park opens at Nicosia general

The new photovoltaic park at Nicosia general hospital is now fully operational, with solar panels installed over the hospital’s parking spaces.

The project, which began its second and final phase on January 8, involved the closure of the remaining parking area to complete the necessary works.

The parking is now fully open and the PV panels provide shade for those using it.

The photovoltaic park, located in the western parking area of the hospital, has a capacity of 1.3 MWp and cost around €1.8 million plus VAT.

The project was funded by the EU’s Recovery and Resilience Plan and was completed within eight months.

State health services organisation Okypy spokesman Charalambos Charilaou said the photovoltaics park aims to partially meet the hospital’s energy needs, allowing it to provide high-quality healthcare services through modern and upgraded facilities, with a focus on better patient care.

Charilaou added that the photovoltaic system would help reduce electricity costs at the hospital.

He then addressed reports suggesting that parking fees would be introduced for hospital visitors.

The parking is currently free of charge for all visitors and will remain so. There are no plans to charge for parking on the premises,” Charilaou said.
