Sunshine and smiles: the 71st Acorn Trophy Shoot 2024

Almost 120 archers stood on the line for GAC’s 71st Acorn Trophy Shoot this August Bank Holiday Monday. Fuelled by bacon butties and teased by a wind that never actually decided which way to blow, archers from clubs both local and further afield came together for Hereford/Bristol rounds.

The Mayor of Guildford Councillor Sallie Barker MBE shot the first arrow (right on target), before revealing her own long-standing association with GB sports and archery, much to the delight of the assembled archers.

It was great to see many familiar faces, both young and young at heart, meeting up again from various shoots throughout the summer. GAC were also delighted to welcome several talented archers from clubs in Wiltshire, Devon, Oxford, and Dorset, many driving long distances to shoot with us.

In the team competition, Reigate Priory lifted the Acorn Trophy with an impressive total score of 3944. Several Guildford members won medals, including two for barebow archer Bronwyn Colegate, a hotly contested silver for Junior compound archer Sophie Godfrey, and a gold for longbow archer Sue Chadwick at her first ever open tournament.
