My husband Gordon Ramsay missed the birth of our first 4 kids, it’s controversial but I didn’t want the attention on him

Tana Ramsay, 50, shared the unusual decision she and Gordon, 57, made while speaking to Giovanna Fletcher on her podcast Happy Mum, Happy Baby.

The broadcaster and author explained that Gordon’s absence was actually planned beforehand.

Speaking about everything from her IVF journey to losing her son and experiencing miscarriages, Tana offered an insight into her family dynamic.

Tana, who suffers from polycystic ovary syndrome, revealed that she has difficulty calling herself a “mother-of-six” due to the loss of her son Rocky shortly after birth.

Along with Rocky, the couple share children Megan, 26, twins Jack and Holly, 24, Tilly, 22, Oscar, 5, and 10-month-old Jesse.

Gordon was present for his younger two children’s births, which Tana explained was heavily due to the complications they had faced previously,

However, for his oldest four children, the famous chef decided against scrubbing in for the occasion.

Both Tana and Giovanna referred to the decision as “controversial” as they discussed the reasoning behind it.

“It is very controversial but it just felt right,” Tana said as she recalled her first three experiences giving birth.

She joked that all the attention likely would’ve been on her husband had he turned up, and not due to his celebrity status.

“He probably would have gone all squeamish and fainted and I would’ve been like, ‘Sorry, this is my moment,'” Tana joked.

She went to say that Gordon’s decision to skip the birth “never really bothered” her.

“I actually felt quite happy when we talked about it, I said, ‘Listen, if you don’t want to be in there then don’t.'”

Tana revealed that her own mum was her birthing partner for her first four children.

However, when the couple decided to try again for more children once their then youngest Tilly had reached 6th form, the chef took a more hands-on approach.

Gordon Ramsay's family

Gordon, 57, married wife Tana, 50, in 1996. The couple share seven children together.

  • Megan Ramsay, born 1998.
  • Jack and Holly Ramsay, born 2000.
  • Matilda Ramsay, born 2001.
  • Rocky Ramsay, born 2016 (deceased).
  • Oscar Ramsay, born 2019.
  • Jesse Ramsay, born 2023.

“I think he wanted to be there and I thought it was nice,” Tana said about the births of her younger children.

“I think it was after what we went through with losing Rocky, our little boy.”

She explained how she had experienced bleeding from the ninth week of pregnancy with her late son and recalled how her water broke while she was only 19 weeks along.

Tana said the “traumatic” early birth happened while she was being monitored in hospital, and while Gordon was at her bedside.

“Gordon looked at me and said, ‘I’m not going anywhere, I’m staying in for this,'” she said.

Tana discussed the emptiness she felt “leaving the hospital without a baby” but also highlighted the “amazing outpouring of support” she received from other bereaved parents.

After suffering several miscarriages, she finally gave birth to sons Oscar and Jesse, who, like Rocky, had been conceived via IVF.

Gordon was present for all three of his younger sons births, including Jesse, who was born in the USA.

Tana confirmed that she is “done” having kids, acknowledging that her family now feels “complete.”
