Prince Harry was ’embarrassed’ after ‘tour’ with Meghan – but is going on another soon
Prince Harry is set to undertake yet another ‘faux’ Royal tour – without Meghan by his side this time.
Less than a month after his ’embarrassing’ visit to Colombia alongside his wife Meghan Markle, Harry will jet off 2,000 miles away to New York City.
The pair previously visited Colombia and Nigeria on tours similar to those undertaken by working royals, but were met with harsh criticism.
A source told OK! magazine: ‘Both Meghan and Harry are keen to do more of these tours as that’s what they love doing and what they enjoyed most about royal life.
‘But they’ve been left embarrassed by this latest backlash, especially as they faced similar comments when they went to Nigeria.’
The embarrassment experienced by the couple seemingly hasn’t deterred Harry – his visit to New York City falls on some of the same dates as the UN General Assembly High-level week from September 23 to 27.
‘The Climate Week’ will also take place during his visit to the Big Apple, and the Prince will attend a number of engagements with various organisations.
Prince Harry will work with African Parks, the HALO Trust and The Diana Award.
A spokesperson for the Duke told People: ‘Harry will also be furthering the work of The Archewell Foundation, the nonprofit organization he co-founded with his wife Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex.’
Prince Harry hasn’t visited New York since last year, when he and Meghan spoke at the World Mental Health Day Festival.
They drew scrutiny after a seven-car convoy was called in to drive them around a single block.
The 0.6 mile drive, due to the one way street forcing the convoy around the block, was several times further than the distance they would have travelled on foot.
Harry and Meghan then hosted a panel discussion at the festival, marking their first-ever in-person event for their charity, the Archewell Foundation.
The charity did find itself in some trouble in May, when the state of California was declared as ‘delinquent’ for failing to submit its annual records and unpaid fees.
But the letter was sent by mistake – a physical cheque was sent by Archewell Foundation but not received, and a new one has been sent to resolve the issue.
It is believed the charity was only made aware of this when the delinquency notice was published.
The Archewell Foundation has the slogan, ‘Show up, do good.’
Their website reads: ‘We consciously partner with key organizations and leaders to identify immediate needs, build meaningful initiatives, and drive long-term change.
‘We are committed to uncovering and resolving the root causes of issues, prioritizing lasting solutions over temporary fixes.’
It’s unclear how Harry plans to promote the charity at these events.
