New rules in the Carabao Cup

The move comes as a result of the new format of the Champions League and the Europa League this season, which will see all the teams play two extra group-stage matches.

Arsenal, Aston Villa, Liverpool, and Manchester City are due in Champions League action the week beginning September 16 while Manchester United and Spurs will begin their Europa League campaigns the following week.

Due to the expansion of these competitions, the FA have decided to keep these sides apart in the next round of the Carabao Cup to ensure there is no clash of fixture dates.

When is the Carabao Cup third-round draw?

Tottenham will learn their opponents in the third round later this evening, with the draw set to take place at the City Ground.

Spurs last won the League Cup back in 2008, which also happens to be their last trophy of any kind.

They made the final in 2021 under Ryan Mason after Jose Mourinho was sacked six days before a defeat to Manchester City at Wembley.

Spurs Web Opinion

This is good news for Tottenham, who will have to take the Carabao Cup seriously this season as the competition represents the club’s best chance of ending their trophy drought.

After being knocked out in the early stages by Fulham last season, one would expect Ange Postecoglou to field quite a strong team.
