8/28/24: Cold Front On The Way
Latest Forecast Update from Meteorologist Rob Lindenmuth:
Good Wednesday morning! We are expecting more warmth and more humidity through midday before a cold front sweeps it all away later this afternoon and into the evening. Along with the front there could be a stray shower or storm through early afternoon, but it does look likely that most will remain dry today.
This front will slowly sink south and east during the day today. Behind this front, much less humidity awaits and we will see the humidity levels dropping through the afternoon and into the evening hours. Temperatures may also drop back a few degrees into the evening as well. While the chance for a shower does exist, most guidance keeps this chance very low.
Our cold front will likely be moving through the area by early afternoon. Our temperatures and dewpoint temperatures will not fall immediately behind this, instead it will be a more gradual process. As the front moves into the warm and humid airmass the chance for a shower or storm does exist, but the better chance for any wet or stormy weather is greatest well south of the area into central Pennsylvania later this afternoon.
Behind the front skies will likely turn partly sunny and temperatures will fall just a bit. But before the "cooler" air arrives, we do expect temperatures to reach the low to mid-80s around the Capital Region, slightly cooler to the north and slightly warmer to the south.
A refreshing flow of air behind this cold front will flow into the Capital Region and northeast overnight and into Thursday. Unfortunately we will be watching for more clouds into Thursday. We may start out with some sunshine with temperatures on the comfy side of things in the upper 50s to near 60.
Into the afternoon, more clouds will try to stream back in from the south and west. The way it appears now, those of you to the north will see more sunshine during the afternoon with more clouds expected from the Mohawk Valley south. There even is the risk of a shower into the afternoon or evening, especially to the south and west. Temperatures though, look to warm to near seasonable levels with many in the mid to upper 70s.
We remain near the same levels for Friday with some sunshine. Better chance at showers and storms on Saturday with temperatures in the mid to upper 70s. We look to clear things out on Sunday with highs back into the low 80s. A system will move through with limited moisture and will usher in cooler and breezy conditions for the Labor Day holiday and into the middle of next week. Have a great day! -Rob
