Virat Kohli and Yashasvi  Jaiswal Surge in Test Rankings as Rohit Sharma Drops to 6th

In the most recent ICC Test rankings, which were made public here on Wednesday, veteran Indian batsman Virat Kohli rose two spots to eighth place while his skipper, Rohit Sharma, fell one spot to sixth.

Rising to seventh place, young Yashasvi Jaiswal now resides in the top 10, alongside Rohit and Kohli.

After England’s victory in the first Test match against Sri Lanka in Manchester, veteran batsman Joe Root continued to hold the top spot among batters in the globe.

However, Harry Brook, Root’s teammate, has significantly improved after scoring 56 and 32 in that Old Trafford match.

The 25-year-old has jumped up three spots to fourth overall, surpassing Rohit, Australia’s Steve Smith, and Pakistan’s Babar Azam.

After a rare failure in Pakistan’s first innings of their Test match against Bangladesh in Rawalpindi, Babar fell from shared third to ninth place, a staggering six spots.

However, after scoring a century in the same game, teammate Mohammad Rizwan moved up seven ranks and set a new career-high rating by sharing the tenth position in the top 10.

Mushfiqur Rahim of Bangladesh rose seven places to be ranked seventeenth, setting a career-high rating.

The veteran Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is still ranked first among bowlers, followed by pacer Jasprit Bumrah in third place and left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja in seventh.

Following strong results from their recent appearances, Pakistan’s right-arm pacer Naseem Shah (up four spots to 33rd) and England’s Gus Atkinson (up four places to 42nd) have achieved career-best ratings. Meanwhile, England seamer Chris Woakes (up four rungs to 16th) and Sri Lanka’s Asitha Fernando (up 10 spots to 17th) have gained some ground.

Axar Patel is placed sixth among all-rounders, but Jadeja and Ashwin are still in the top two positions.
