The injured students all were expected to survive, police said. All of them were boys.

One of them, a 15-year-old, went by ambulance to a hospital and was treated there. Another 15-year-old was taken to a hospital by a family member. Both of those boys appeared to have injuries caused by a knife, police said.

A 14-year-old also had what police called minor injuries. Police did not say how those injuries appeared to be caused.

Police said they have not made any arrests, and that they are investigating the circumstances that led to the brawl. Police have spoken to the involved boys, as well as to witnesses.

“Student safety is and will remain a priority for the Hayward Police Department,” police said in their statement. “We will continue to provide support to the Hayward Unified School District, as they work to maintain an environment conducive to learning and one in which students and staff feel safe.”

Police asked anyone who may have information about the fights to contact them at 510-293-7176.
